Friday Folder 6/8

Roosevelt Community,
We would like to extend our thanks to families and staff for all of the trust put in us and support provided to the PTA this year. It enabled us to have a fantastic school year filled with great events for our students. After several “weird” years, it finally felt like we were back to normal. We could not have done it without our volunteers. Whether you were a chairperson of a large event, gave an hour of your time, or sent in a donated item, we want to thank you for your contribution! For some of us, our time on the board has come to an end. But we have a returning board member and some new ones! Susie Mallach will continue serving as secretary and Bridget Ward and Drew Gaddis will join her to continue to carry out the work of the Roosevelt PTA. There is no doubt that the Roosevelt community will remain strong, welcoming, and fun for all! But we are still in need of one more board member for next year! And as always, we welcome your help in any way you can give it! So if you are interested in learning more about serving on the board or a committee, please email us at rooseveltpta@gmail.com or chat with us if you run into us this summer! We hope you all have a safe and restful summer. See you next year!

I value the opportunities I have had to be connected with administrators, teachers, families, and students and to continue Roosevelt traditions and begin new ones. I will help train and assist you in the position, and will continue to be available for questions throughout your term, just as my predecessors have done for me. Roosevelt Food Pantry
The Roosevelt free food pantry has been providing food to students and their families since the beginning of the pandemic.  The pantry is stocked and maintained by a group of volunteers and local neighbors. It is a place where a student or community member can grab a snack after school or an easy to prepare meal for the evening or weekend or when school is out.

The plastic cabinet stands against the building on 74th Street near the small playground/outdoor classroom.  It has been through a few years of Wisconsin’s climate, has weathered many storms, has been patched, and rebuilt a few times.  Over the winter break, Dan Klasen and his daughter Haley found the cabinet completely broken apart.  They were able to brace and rebuild the cabinet so that it can continue to serve the Roosevelt community once again.

The 5th grade Girl Scout troop checks the pantry twice a month to help maintain it but anyone is welcome to help out.  We also have a sign up if you’d like to help out 10 minutes per month.

Anyone is welcome to take what they need from the pantry at any time.  Donations are always greatly appreciated and can be left in the pantry at your convenience but we also have an Amazon wishlist if you’d prefer to order something and have a volunteer stock the pantry for you.  We have a few simple rules to keep the food safe:

  1. Only non-perishable food can be kept in the pantry.
  2. Please do not leave any items that are expired.
  3. Plastic jars and lined cardboard packaging is preferred.  Can’s are also good however they can swell and burst in very cold winter months and so we often remove them in the winter and return them in the spring.
  4. Do not leave empty wrappers or open packages as they can attract pests.
  5. Make sure the doors are closed when you leave.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Kris Herman at KHerman4820@gmail.com

The Florentine Opera Event at the Wauwatosa Library

The Florentine Opera Studio Artists present an adaptation The Barber of Seville. Gioacchino Rossini’s most famous “opera buffa” tells the tale of a smitten Count Almaviva who is in love with the beautiful Rosina. The problem? Her Aunty Bartola forbids it! The Count enlists the help of the town barber, Figaro, to help him scheme. This musical masterpiece has a storyline that would be equally at home in a Hollywood rom-com. The music will be performed in the original Italian, interspersed with dialogue in English. Students will get a chance to learn a few Italian words and will get to participate in the story from their seats. The program runs 45 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A.”

This Wauwatosa Public Library event is on Saturday, January 21st @ 10:00am. Everyone is invited to register online at https://www.wauwatosalibrary.org/kids/program-registration .  A Library card is not required.
