Wake Up Call Presentation
The rise in the use of vaping devices and other substances among youth is a growing concern. Are you familiar with carts? Dabs? If you have young people in your life, you should be.

The Wake Up Call presentation, a program of Your Choice, provides practical information on current drug trends, a walk-through of a teens bedroom with more than 50 red flags that could indicate substance use, as well as proactive parenting strategies to keep your child substance free.

The presenters, with lived experience, combine their personal stories, experience working with students and families, and sharing things they wish they would’ve known into an engaging, real and unique presentation. This presentation is a MUST SEE for parents, grandparents, teachers, community members and other adults who are influential in the lives of youth.

This event is sponsored by the Ian Standal Memorial.

Congrats Destination Imagination Teams!
Congrats to all our Roosevelt Destination Imagination teams on their fantastic performances at the regional tournament in Muskego this weekend. A special shout out to Fire Monkeys of the Sea who took third in the engineering category, the S.E.A.L.S who took 1st in the scientific category, and Team Umbrellas Go Aaaaahh, who took 1st in the improv category. Destination Imagination Tournament
Good luck to the 35 Roosevelt students who will be competing in the regional Destination Imagination tournament in Muskego this Saturday. Roosevelt once again has more DI teams than any other school in the Milwaukee region. This year’s seven Roosevelt teams include Team Umbrellas Go AHHHHHH!, S.E.A.L.S., Ice Cream and Chezburgers, The Fantastic Shapes!, Donut Lollipop Kitty!, Fire Monkeys of the Sea, and Li’l Champs. The students will perform team-written skits and compete in an instant challenge.

Sweet Treat

Thank you to the phenomenal Roosevelt community for showing UP on a snowy Friday morning for Sweet Treat. For those of you who we had to turn away, thank you for your patience. For the rest of you, thank you for your smiles (they show in the eyes even with the masks!) for your children, and for eating LOTS OF DONUTS!!!

It was clear that this community – which is so wonderful – has missed being together.

Hopefully we’ll be back to fully indoors next year. Keep your fingers crossed.

Winter Outdoor Ninja Course Event
Are your kids bouncing off the walls at home? Do you need a way to help get some of those wiggles out? Come check out the Winter Outdoor Ninja Course Event on the Roosevelt Playground. February 26th from 9:00 am -11:00 am.  Snacks and drinks will be provided along with the chance to test your strength and agility. This is NOT a drop off event, for safety purposes, adult supervision is required.

A big thank you to Legacy Gym and the Roosevelt PTA for sponsoring the event.

Box Tops
Did you know you can earn money for Roosevelt Elementary through Box Tops for Education? Simply click on the link, download the phone app, search for Roosevelt Elementary and scan your receipts.   https://www.boxtops4education.com/

Box tops aren’t found just on food items, but many office and school supplies as well as cleaning products.

Over the years, Box Tops has been a prosperous fundraiser for our PTA to support teachers and their classrooms. However, since Box Tops has transitioned to scanning versus traditional clipping the money raised for our school has reduced greatly.

The Box Tops website and phone app have many helpful resources such as how to submit digital receipts and how Box Tops can send you a reminder to your phone to scan your receipts.

If you come across the older style clipped Box Tops that have not expired, please send the clipped Box Tops with your child to school. The clipped Box tops can be given to your child’s teacher or Mrs. Manning in the front office.

Conference Meal Thank You
Big thanks to Barb Teske-Young for coordinating conference meals this year! And thank you to families who provided items. Roosevelt staff was very appreciative of having meals on these long days. Thank you also to Mrs. Manning, Ms. Dickhut, and Mr. Supa for helping to make it happen!

Meeting Minuets: January 8th 2022

Call to Order 7:33

Ashley and Jennifer absent

Principal’s Report

  • Star testing as started and PALs testing will start soon.
  • The school is surveying students on feeling of belonging. For example, to see if they have one trusted adult in the building. The school will then look at that data and discuss next steps.

Treasurer’s Report

Ashley Absent

Old Business

  • Holiday Gift Fair budget vote postponed.
  • Liz McCabe – it was great for the Daisy Group to help with the pantry. There is a lot of pasta and the pantry is in need of other items. Looking for more slots filled. Boy and Girl scouts troops could use this as a service project.

Sweet Treat (Sunny)

Planned for February 11th, possibly pushed back to the 25th? Weather permitting would be outside with a playground celebration. Another idea is grab and go bags, but not ideal.

Math Night (Sunny)

Mathnasium team is a valued part of the community. Small budget of $300-$500 for supplies to hype it up and prizes. The idea is to come have fun with Math. Sunny hopes we will get a PTA grant to pay for Math Night. Planned for February 10th.

Winter Walk to School Day (Jamie)

Planned for January 18th. Going to try to get the walking school bus organized.

School Dance (Liz)

Not going to have a dance due to covid. Outdoors is not an option due to time of year. Sunny is willing to put together an outdoor event if possible.

School Dance Discussion:

Eric Jessup-Anger: Does the dance make sense to do in May? Big Picture- need for community building events. People would be willing to wait to do these events til covid numbers drop. Plans things outside and after February.

Mark Supa: Maybe have grade levels rotate outdoors on the playground. Could move to til later if needed.

Sunny: Glowlympics outdoor event on a Friday night. Possibly use center street park and the ice skating rink.

Art Walk

Mrs. Callahan said there is less art this year due to attendance. Mark Supa will talk with Mrs. Callahan about a timeline for more art. It could be possible to create a one way path for the art walk like was done for the Meet the Teacher event.
