PTO Survey Results and Comments

The board would like to thank everyone who gave us feedback on moving from a PTA to a PTO.  We received a full spectrum of responses and truly do appreciate everyone who took the time to review and respond.  As we have stated from the beginning, while the current board supports a move to a PTO, it was important that we present the information, listen to what our community had to say and then determine what, if any, next steps there would be.  We felt it necessary to have a strong and clear mandate from this community before making any change to our organizational structure for the next school year.

Below are the results of the survey.  These results also include all input received from people via email, voicemail or meeting attendance not captured in the actual survey.  As a comparison, Roosevelt has approx. 420 families and 700+ individual parents/guardians.  Given this, the number of responses received was less than we were looking for.

Response to Do you support changing to a PTO? # Percentage
No 31 23%
Yes 72 53%
No Preference 32 24%
Total Responses Received 135 100%

Changing to a PTO is not something this board takes lightly and we unanimously agree that no further action will be taken at this time.  While there are several contributing factors, including the time remaining in the school year, this decision is driven mainly by the fact that though a majority favor a move to a PTO, the number of no preference responses as well as the overall number of responses does not give us the strong mandate we feel necessary for moving to a PTO next year.

Again, thank you to everyone who participated and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Kim Smith, PTA President
